Biography

Sharon Bassan is a legal scholar with expertise in (bio)ethics, health policy, innovation, and information technology law and ethics. She completed three years as the Jaharis Faculty Fellow in Health Law and Intellectual Property at the DePaul University College of Law, and two years as a postdoctoral research associate at the University Center for Human Values (UCHV), Princeton University.

The common thread running through Professor Bassan’s scholarship, teaching and service is emerging technologies and the ethical and regulatory challenges they raise. In particular, she focuses on regulation of reproductive practices and the regulation of innovative technologies, such as data mining, Big Data and intelligent systems, among others. Her work has been published in Dickinson Law Review, Journal of Law and the Biosciences, Health Matrix: Journal of Law-Medicine; Georgetown Journal on Gender & Law, American Journal of Bioethics, and Michigan Journal of International Law, among others. Her book “Regulating Cross-border Surrogacy” is forthcoming at Cambridge University Press.

Professor Bassan has won several scholarship programs for outstanding postdoctoral fellows, from The Council for Higher Education, Israel’s Ministry of Science, Technology & Space, several women’s organizations, and more.
